CALCULATE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT!
It is very easy, just follow this formula:

How many miles is your round trip daily work commute? A
According to US DOT 2003 Transportation Statistics Annual Report the typical US driver commutes 24 miles round trip.

How many miles per gallon of gasoline does your vehicle get? B
According to the US DOT 2006 Transportation Statistics Annual Report the typical passenger car gets 23 mpg while trucks get 16 mpg.

How many days per year do you drive to work? C
Working 48 weeks (2 weeks vacation, 2 weeks of holidays) a year is equal to 240 days.

Answers to questions should go into this formula:

A x C = total miles traveled in a year
A x C / B = total fuel used to commute to work
A x C / B x 20 = pounds of carbon produced by driving to work.

How did we come up with this formula?

To calculate the CO2 emissions from a gallon of fuel, the carbon emissions are multiplied by the ratio of the molecular weight of CO2 (m.w. 44) to the molecular weight of carbon (m.w.12): 44/12.
CO2 emissions from a gallon of gasoline = 2,421 grams x 0.99 x (44/12) = 8,788 grams = 8.8 kg/gallon = 19.4 pounds/gallon
CO2 emissions from a gallon of diesel = 2,778 grams x 0.99 x (44/12) = 10,084 grams = 10.1 kg/gallon = 22.2 pounds/gallon
