GENERAL PURPOSE
The Customer Service Representative is responsible for assisting the public who inquire by telephone or visit the transit center providing information on MTD’s bus services including bus route information and sale of bus passes. Assists in resolution of issues that may arise regarding ridership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Essential functions may include, but are not limited, to the following:

TRANSIT CENTER
•   Handle cash and checks, maintains bus pass inventory according to district policy and balance cash box daily.
•   Answer telephone inquiries in a timely, efficient, friendly, and helpful manner
•   Maintain up to date knowledge of all bus routes and schedules
•   Provide up to date accurate route information to callers and walk in ridership in a friendly manner
•   Provide forms, information, and assistance in regards to mobility pass id’s
•   Assist passengers with change machines and TVM’s
•   Takes account for items that are left behind by passengers/ridership; maintains order for lost/found items in storage area, and returns items to passenger(s) adhering to MTD’s policies and procedures
•   Attend to and resolve complaints from passengers. Refers complaints to appropriate department for resolution
•   Announce bus arrival/departures and route information over Public Announcement (as necessary or directed)
•   Pay close attention to any safety issues that may arise and reports findings immediately to the Transit Supervisor for immediate attention

Qualification:
QUALIFICATIONS: The following are the minimum qualifications, which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

Education and Experience
•   One (1) year of verifiable experience in customer service and/or retail sales, including cash handling experience
•   High School diploma or High School equivalency (GED)
•   Public Agency experience is preferred.
•   Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred, but not required

Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:
•   Knowledge of proper cash handling techniques
•   Principles and practices of excellent customer etiquette
•   Basic Arithmetic
•   Basic fundamentals of clerical and office procedures

WORKING CONDITIONS – In general, the following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Environment - Works in indoor office conditions with exposure to outdoor conditions in public city streets, special events and facilities areas; may drive district vehicle while conducting district business.

Physical – Hearing and Speaking sufficient to articulate information in person, and by telephone. Vision within normal range with or without correction; sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Ability to push, lift, carry, and pull up to 50 lbs, walking on uneven surfaces; uses hands to handle, feel and operate standard office equipment including work assigned computer, mental capability to use or apply analytical reasoning and concepts, read and interpret documents, observe and interpret people and situations, perform detailed on multiple concurrent tasks.

Hazards – Exposure to traffic, fumes, dust, dirt, and computer screens.
